Prototyping process
Creating the prototype is one of the most important stages of the project delivery. A professionally made prototype will eventually save a lot of time for both the customer and the developers. Basically it is a sketch of the product to be developed. In this document we usually define the main usability issues (as website navigation, position of the content on the page layout) and crucial interaction details (such as sitemap, description of the functionality to be developed, different use cases for the website users, etc). Though prototyping may take some time on the first stage of the project development, it saves much more time and efforts in further.
What's in it for the customer?
During prototype creation we clarify with you the features, requests, design layouts etc. and put them into one document. After the prototype is finished, a demo is delivered to the customer for comment and revision.
All the logical gaps can be seen, inconsistencies in the layout and functionality can be adjusted. It's much easier to fix all those issues at this stage than later on. In this way customer gets a product designed to their specification.
What's in it for the developers?
A professionally made prototype simply means an enormous part of work for the developers and designer will be clarified at an earlier stage. Using the prototype, agreed with the customer, a designer gets the main idea of what the client wants. This makes the design process easier and more effective. The designer doesn't have to figure out what goes where on the page, as it was agreed on the prototyping stage.
Similarly, the developers get the clear vision of what exact functionality should be developed and the logic behind each request. Having the complete picture clarified, the development process will be much faster and effective. The developer doesn't have to request spend lots of time seeking clarification from the client.
